Thank you for your interest in Carolinas HealthCare Foundation (CHF). As the point of contact for all charitable contributions connected to Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) in the Charlotte area, we are pleased to work with interested donors in support of the work of CHS physicians, nurses and other talented healthcare providers. Their exceptional and often heroic efforts benefit people throughout the Carolinas and beyond.
It is an exciting and yet challenging time to assist in facilitating the power of philanthropy in healthcare. Donors clearly recognize the importance of healthcare. They also understand that their donations can and do help to make a difference in the level of healthcare available to the people of the Carolinas. At CHS, we recognize that philanthropy is often the difference between good and excellence in healthcare programs and services. In some cases, philanthropy is the basis for the existence of a program or service. Occasionally, even an entire facility is made possible by philanthropy of which Levine Children’s Hospital is an excellent example.
Today, multiple programs and services are benefiting from donors stepping forward to help in underwriting a wide array of health related activities in the Carolinas. Pediatric cancer research, heart related programs and behavioral health issues are just a few of the important areas upon which we are currently focusing. Children’s programs and services, neuromuscular programs, education and research continue to be among the key commitments of Carolinas HealthCare Foundation.
In 2010, CHF was afforded a major role in helping to concept and articulate the new Levine Cancer Institute. Having potential impact on the way cancer services are delivered in the Carolinas, LCI will touch the lives of people in large and small communities from the coastal Carolinas to the mountains. Underscoring the magnitude of this innovative concept for cancer care and population based research, CHS recruited one of America’s top cancer specialists to lead the new program. Dr. Derek Raghavan joined the CHS team in 2011 following his service in leading The Cleveland Clinic to be recognized as one of the premiere programs in the nation. In support of CHS’s renewed commitment to cancer related services in the Carolinas, CHF plans to assist CHS in generating more than $100 million in support over the next decade.
There are thousands of examples of people who are helping to improve healthcare in our community. They are participating in events such as the Hopebuilders 5K, or the annual Cupid’s Cup event. Some are raising money through events they organize, others are developing personal fundraising web pages, and we even have young children who donate the proceeds from lemonade stands or birthday parties. It surprises people to learn that CHF receives support from more than 2,500 events and activities annually. Some large, some small, they all help to make a difference.
It’s encouraging to watch what can happen when a community pulls together to support excellence in healthcare. Thanks to each and every one of our donors, we are daily making a difference in the lives of people in the Carolinas.
Thank you for your interest. We are honored by your support. Be well.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Rose
President
