On Monday, January 16, the Patriot Military Family Foundation, in partnership with Charlotte Latin School, presented a check for $20,000 to Carolinas Healthcare Foundation in support of the Emergency Medicine Research & Education Fund led by David Callaway, MD, Medical Director of Carolinas MED-1*. This generous gift will benefit Dr. Callaway’s project to provide training to U.S. military medics so that they might become physician assistants in civilian life. Dr. Callaway is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Carolinas Medical Center where he serves as the Director of the Division of Operational and Disaster Medicine and Medical Director of Carolinas MED-1. The Patriot Military Family Foundation, which has been instrumental in supporting service-disabled veterans and their families in the Carolinas and across the United States, is the beneficiary of Charlotte Latin School’s annual All-School service project. *Carolinas MED-1 is a mobile hospital unit owned by Carolinas HealthCare System that is designed to provide comprehensive patient care at the site of a disaster or other mass casualty event.
