On April 18, the Pounding For Parker Foundation proudly presented Dr. Chad Jacobsen and Dr. David Gass of Levine Children’s Hospital with a check for $100,000 in support of the hospital’s neuro-oncology and brain tumor survivorship programs.
The Foundation’s namesake – Parker Cowherd – and his parents, Allison and Jon, have turned their own experience with Parker’s cancer diagnosis in 2015 into an opportunity to raise funds for survivorship, wellness, and neuro-oncology support programs for childhood cancer patients and survivors. His parents are acutely aware that a child’s “battle with cancer doesn’t stop once the disease enters remission or is stabilized,” says Allison.
The Foundation’s fundraising is focused on survivor wellness and addressing the potential late-effects of chemotherapy among children who, in some cases, may be several years out from their initial treatments. The $100,000 grant will also specifically fund a new staff position to assist with monitoring any abnormal signs, making referrals to other physicians, and family counseling.
