What is Carolinas HealthCare Foundation?

Carolinas HealthCare Foundation serves as the primary point of contact for individual, foundation and corporate charitable support of Carolinas HealthCare System (a self-supporting, public, not-for-profit healthcare provider.) The Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Why should I contribute to Carolinas HealthCare Foundation?

Financial contributions help provide the resources necessary to maintain the highest level of excellence and patient support in our medical programs and services. Your individual acts of generosity help improve the quality of life for people in our region today and into the future.

Philanthropic gifts have always been important to Carolinas HealthCare System. Since its beginnings in 1939, gracious donors have significantly contributed to the growth and success of CHS programs and services.

How will my contribution be used?

Many donors elect to designate a hospital service or program as the recipient of their gift – to a fund that supports ovarian cancer research, or to cardiovascular rehabilitation. A donor may also choose to make an unrestricted gift to the Foundation. At the discretion of the Board of Directors, these gifts are designated for areas where needs are most critical and urgent.

Children in the Charlotte region who are diagnosed with cancer overwhelmingly turn to Levine Children’s Hospital for the care they need. With the support of the community, the hospital’s Torrence E. Hemby Jr. Hematology and Oncology Center has quickly become one of the top pediatric cancer centers in the Southeast.

Now you can join the fight.

LOCAL BENEFICIARIES
Every dollar you give to fight childhood cancer goes to develop Phase I and Phase II clinical research trials here in Charlotte. These trials are the first steps in finding new treatments for cancer, and they’re the only ones available in all of western and central North Carolina. With your help, children in our community who are diagnosed with cancer can now receive the best care possible without having to travel a great distance to receive the treatments they need.

SUPPORTED BY CHARITIES
In 2010, members of the Carolinas KIDS Cancer Research Coalition generously pledged $5.7 million, laying the groundwork for supporting Phase I and Phase II clinical trials at LCH.

AN IMPORTANT CAUSE
Funds are used to recruit additional healthcare professionals, build research infrastructure and develop the diagnostic and treatment facilities required for clinical trials.

REACHING MORE CHILDREN
Levine Children’s Hospital is continually adding new clinical cancer trials, and the number of patients is growing – including patients from outside the Charlotte area.

Sustainer
In 2011, the FIGHT campaign was introduced to the founding members of the Carolinas KIDS Cancer Research Coalition. The first phase of the campaign raised awareness and support of our founding members' commitments to support the FIGHT against pediatric cancer.

The second phase is a grass-roots call to action for the community to raise funds for the FIGHT. So far, there have been garage sales, FIGHT rock concerts, lemonade stands and more. The community is invited to start a Personal Fundraising Page. Those who start a Personal Fundraising Page and raise $50 or more will receive a FIGHT t-shirt!
